i wonder how many people who support gun control play video games like Call of Duty and Battlefield that have licensed digital replicas of firearms, know that buying those games and playing them actually supports the gun industry through said licenses.
I support Gun Control and I play these games… Here’s the kicker: While I support Gun Control, I also support Firearm Ownership. Being for Gun Control doesn’t mean you’re for the eradication of firearm ownership by default.
actually your logic is flawed to begin with. you supporting gun control means you support the limitation of firearms ownership, example being for this text; like firearms such as the AR15 platform.
in Call of Duty and Battlefield; there are plenty of M16s and M4s (AR15 variants) that are manufactured by Colt and FN Herstal which in turn produce the same arms for commercial civilian use. depending on the state regulation and licenses granted from the BATFE; a civilian can own these same weapons (gun control). while those who live in a heavily regulated state (NY, CA, etc) are restricted to having certain features and magazine capacities for those weapons (gun control).
any form of gun control is the slow eradication of firearms ownership for the private citizen. [gun control] legislation starts with the ban of certain features and specific firearms by classifying them, and eventually end with confiscating and restricting them from private ownership.
thus supporting gun control does mean support the eradication of gun ownership.
what firearms i own and choose to use for my own personal defense and recreation use is not the business of others or for the government to regulate. i am a law abiding citizen who has no intentions of evil upon my fellow man.
Do I feel like there are logical and/or valid reasons to own firearms? Yes; hunting, hobby, and home and self protection are very valid reasons.
Do I think civilians have a need for certain categories of weapons? No; I personally see absolutely no logic to owning certain kinds of weapons outside of hobby.
Am I going to tell them they can’t own them within reason just because I don’t see a point? No.
However, I want to make sure you’ve gone through the appropriate training course for the safety and handling of that weapon, know how to shoot and aim and maintain your weapon properly, etc, before being allowed to become legally licensed to own and carry it. Why? Because that is a weapon and as a weapon it is a public safety issue. It has jack shit to you being a law abiding citizen or what gun you’re carrying. I want to make sure you know how to use it, are trained, and aren’t going to go bat shit.
Hence: Gun Control… Because surprisingly for most people Gun Control isn’t about limiting the flow of and ownership of guns and Gun Control can be about more than doing so. So again, Being for Gun Control does not mean your are for the eradication of Firearms.
so in your definition of Gun Control; is outlining gun safety.
i can see that you have good intentions but by the US Legal definition of Gun Control is as follows:
Gun control [laws] aim to restrict or regulate the sale, purchase, or possession of firearms through licensing, registration, or identification requirements.
which in turns violates the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution
”A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
look, im all for proper training and knowledge for firearms to all who possess them but that is not my business to regulate how property is sold. however, i am not going to regulate what people do with their firearms. they can carry it daily or just keep it in their safe for all i care because it is their responsibility. once they break the law in which a crime is committed then obviously they are a criminal which is to be dealt with by law abiding citizens or civil servants such as the police.
even then, those who go “bat shit” and commit atrocities with a firearm are also trained; example being service members (Fort Hood) and sworn police officers (unlawful shootings).
look at Arizona and Vermont for instance, a person can walk into a gun store and purchase a firearm with valid identification and a clean record (in accordance with the standardized the National Instant Criminal Background Check System) and walk out with the firearm on their hip if they like. those states have do not possess any required permits or licenses specifically for firearms purchases and also possess a low crime rate.
i will not get into a debate of antics of crime statistics (though there is also a dramatic decrease of crime in reference with the FBI uniformed crime reporting), but the point is, regardless of how much is regulated or unregulated, you cannot regulate or control evil in the hearts of human beings.
im done here.
